Originally from southern Illinois, Shelly Ann Kamei has lived in several states and two foreign countries. She and her husband relocated to Kentucky in 2013, trading the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles for the charm of a rural Nelson County farm.

Shelly Ann Kamei is a member of the Elder Law Section of the Kentucky Bar Association and the Kentucky Guardianship Association. She has been an officer of the Elder Law section for several years. She will serve as section Chair during the 2022-2023 term.  She is also a member of the national organizations Elder Counsel and National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, Inc. (NAELA).

Shelly Ann Kamei is involved in several local and regional charitable and social organizations. She has served on several local and regional boards including the board of the Nelson County Rotary and the Legal Aid Society. She and her husband are patrons and supporters of The Speed Art Museum.

Shelly Ann Kamei is a cum laude graduate of the University of San Diego School of Law.  Shelly was active in several campus organizations and completed over 100 hours of pro bono legal service while a student. Her article Partitioning Paternity: The German Approach to a Disjuncture Between Genetic and Legal Paternity With Implications for American Courts” was selected for publication in the San Diego International Law Journal. Her work on the nursing shortage in California schools, “The Health of California’s School Children: A Case of State Malpractice” earned her a Child Advocate of the Year Award.
